Description

A classic Cajun dish featuring crispy fried shrimp seasoned with bold spices, perfect for gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Peanut or vegetable oil for frying
  • Fresh herbs (parsley or chives) for garnish
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Marinate shrimp in buttermilk and Cajun seasoning for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix flour, cornmeal, salt, pepper, and additional Cajun seasoning.
  3. Heat oil in a deep skillet to 350°F.
  4. Remove shrimp from marinade, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge in seasoned flour and cornmeal mixture.
  5. Carefully drop coated shrimp into hot oil, frying them in batches for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  6. Transfer cooked shrimp to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs and lemon wedges.

Notes

For extra crunch, consider adding panko breadcrumbs. Avoid overcrowding the pan when frying.
